Manchester City today have registered their interest in signing Irish international centre-back, Jonny Evans. Evans is currently contracted to West Bromwich Albion and has previously played for City’s cross city rivals, Manchester United.
The 29 year old veteran centre back played for Man United for over nine years and would be making a very controversial decision should he eventually choose to join the title favourites this year.
Why do City need him?
Well it’s no secret that Manchester City have lacked some serious gall at the back in recent seasons with big money signings like Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi failing to cut the mustard in the Premier League. Alongside failed signings, City captain and defensive stalwart Vincent Kompany has been plagued with injuries over the past two years and hasn’t featured much at all.
Jonny Evans is a player who has been in the Premier League for a long time now and is very experienced after playing under managers such as Sir Alex Ferguson and Tony Pulis. Evans played 31 times for the Baggies last season and was part of the team who kept a fairly unimpressive six clean sheets in the league as West Brom relied on their goal-scoring abilities to guide them to a top half finish.
If he does eventually sign for City he will add experience, goals from the back and a bit of cover for Pep at the back. We would say he could be a worthwhile signing for the sky-blues.
