Newcastle United today announced the signing of Spanish international striker, Joselu, 27, on a three year deal from Stoke City FC. Joselu joins the Magpies for a fee of around £5 million and becomes Rafa Benitez’s sixth Summer signing.
Joselu spent last season on loan at La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna where he scored a fairly average six goals in 25 appearances. He has impressed in pre season this Summer though as he netted four times in just two games for the Potters.
What will he add to Newcastle?
Joselu will add another option up top for Toon boss Benitez but there are some serious concerns as to whether or not he will be first choice at St James’ Park with competition from the likes of Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Joselu compares quite closely to Mitrovic in truth as he stands at 6 foot 4 inches tall and plays up front as a target man. He too has struggled with goals in his last two seasons at the top level scoring just four for Stoke in the 2015-16 season and, as mentioned earlier, just the six on loan at Deportivo last season.
