Huddersfield v Newcastle: Match Preview

Last weekend, Huddersfield Town got off to a dream start in the Premier League as they rolled over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Steve Mounie’s brace and an own goal by Joel Ward separated the two teams as Town came away 3-0 victors.

However, Newcastle didn’t have quite the start they would have wanted on their return to the EPL. Jonjo Shelvey was dismissed for a vicious stamp on Dele Alli before Alli got revenge by opening the scoring. Ben Davies added a second sealing a 2-0 victory for Spurs at St James’ Park.

Town strengthened well over the Summer

Huddersfield strenghtened their squad massively over the Summer with Steve Mounie becoming their record transfer after his £11 million move from Montpellier. In addition, they added Aaron Mooy after his successful loan spell from Manchester City last year – He arrived for £10 million. Other notable arrivals include Tom Ince from Derby and Scott Malone from Fulham.

In total the Terriers have spent £45 Million over the Summer and are massively improving their chances of survival this season as all the gaps in squad have been gradually plugged.

Newcastle not done enough?

A lot of Newcastle fans, as well as manager Rafael Benitez, are unconvinced as to whether or not their club have done enough business in the window to survive this season.

With problems at the back last season and the Spurs game taking it’s toll on squad depth as Florian Lejeune and Paul Dummett both picking up injuries, Newcastle really should have strengthened more at the back.

As well as problems at the back, Rafa and his side lack a real Premier League proven striker to lead the line this season. Number nine Dwight Gayle will shoulder a lot of responsibility with Aleksandar Mitrovic and new signing, Joselu, there for backup.

It doesn’t look great for the Magpies at the moment, but with two weeks left in the window Newcastle need to use every minute to add more signings.
