Denver Broncos are enduring one of the most challenging periods in recent history after suffering six straight losses. The Cincinnati Bengals are the latest team to register a victory against a struggling defence after Andy Dalton threw for three Touchdowns at the Paul Brown stadium on Sunday.
Mike McCoy became the first major casualty of the regime this week when he was fired from his job as Offensive Coordinator following the poor showing from Osweiler and co this season. Then, just hours ago, it was announced that Paxton Lynch will become Denver’s third starting QB of the season this weekend.
Why did Mike McCoy get the sack?
Mike McCoy had been under a lot of pressure after his side have failed to impress time and time again. Much of that is down to having a poor roster of QB’s to feed menacing wide receivers Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders.
On top of that, they haven’t really managed to get the run game going either with C.J Anderson and Jamaal Charles having just three rushing TD’s between them all season. As a result, Vance Joseph made the decision to get rid of him and replace him with the QB coach Bill Musgrave. He also promoted Klint Kubiak to take over the QB coaching position.
Paxton Lynch in at QB
After Brock Osweiler turned out not to be the answer to Denver’s QB woes (surprise, surprise), VJ has decided that he thinks Paxton Lynch is finally ready to come into the team. This comes after VJ declared he was ‘not ready both physically and mentally’ to be ready to play just two weeks ago.
Denver fans will be happy he is finally fit to play and they will be hoping he can bring back that winning feeling to the Superbowl 50 champs.
Lynch didn’t play a lot in his rookie year and connected on 59% of his passes, throwing for two TD’s and one pick in his three appearances.
How much more time should Joseph get?
Denver face Oakland this weekend at Mile High Stadium. It begs the question, what happens if Denver lose for a seventh successive week? Will that be the end of the rookie head coach? Or should he be given more time?
One thing is for certain, Denver desperately need to get a win but it will be no easy task against a very capable offence. Broncos have already beaten the Raiders once this season after getting an impressive 16-10 victory in Oakland in Week 4. That was actually the last time Denver won a game, oh how they’d love to get another one.
They may be boosted by the uncertainty around the Oakland defence, after they sacked their defensive coordinator just moments ago. Ken Norton Jr apparently told his players on Tuesday afternoon he was on his way out.
